Hanuman is a major character in the Indian epic Ramayana (story of Rama). He led a band of monkeys, or ape-like creatures, who gave vital assistance to Rama in the rescue of Sita from the Demon-King Ravana's kingdom of Lanka. He is a symbol of strength and loyalty, and as a result is patron of wrestlers and boxers.
For the Hindu devotee, Hanuman is the symbol of the loyal servant in relation to the master.
