The
tradition of painting in India goes back to antiquity, as is evident
from the murals of Ajanta, Ellora and other frescoes, the Buddhist
palm-leaf manuscripts, the Jain texts and the Deccan, Mughal and Kangra
schools. A touch of modernisation came with the Bengal
renaissance while many contemporary painters have adopted abstract and
other modern ideas. In recent times Indian art has been
marginalised and little attention has been paid to it. We
offer visitors to our site a selection of works by young Indian
artists, and to give an insight – however incomplete
– into the artistic production and complex reality of the
most culturally diverse country in the world. The artists
live and work in India sharing their lives with hundreds of millions of
others, their painting stems from this rich diverse ethnic, religious,
social and political culture.
The aim of this gallery is to provide a
forum for up and coming artists to sell their paintings and
prints. We aim to make Indian art commercially available
through the net. indiaart.co.uk, is an on-line studio
offering various traditional and contemporary art, providing a showcase
for the talent of young artists so that it can be appreciated by as
wide an audience as possible.
